7 Reasons why Henann Prime Beach Resort is a perfect hotel for your Boracay trip

Henann Prime Beach Resort

Henann Prime Beach Resort is the newest and very first Henann beachfront resort in station 1 Boracay. Opened in November 2016, Henann Prime Beach Resort is becoming a popular choice of station 1 Boracay hotel among tourists.

Me being a first timer in Boracay, Jen made sure that to book the best but not the priciest hotel in the island. We were lucky to have booked Henann Prime Beach Resort’s Splendid Package which is a 2 nights and 3 days stay including 2 buffet breakfast, 2 buffet dinner and airport transfers.

We loved everything about Henann Prime Beach Resort and we’re definitely recommending it to anyone who’s planning to visit Boracay. Here are my 7 Reasons why Henann Prime Beach Resort is a Perfect Hotel for your Boracay Trip:

1. Breathtaking Beachfront Resort

Me enjoying the beautiful beach front of Henann Prime Beach Resort
Me enjoying the beautiful beach front of Henann Prime Beach Resort

Situated in station 1 which is known to as home of luxury and high–end resorts in Boracay, Henann Prime Beach Resort has the best beachfront compared to other Henann resorts in Boracay island. It’s beachfront is as equally beautiful as other station 1 hotels and resorts. The beachfront is the perfect spot to enjoy the breathtaking view of fine white sands and pristine waters of Boracay.  From afar, Henann Prime Beach resort’s facade stands out for it’s signature blue-green beach beds with stylish white umbrellas.

The facade is truly eye-catching.  It has a high-end look and feel. The beautiful beach beds are just few meters from the shore and are perfectly placed for relaxation. Almost all tourists walking in the shore take a glimpse of the carefully arranged and classy beach beds of Henann Prime Beach Resort.

2. Superb Customer service

Henann Prime Beach Resort knows what customer service is! The superb customer service starts the moment you arrive in the in the airport. You will experience a VIP treatment throughout your stay, from your Caticalan airport transfer to Henann Prime, during your stay in the resort, until your transfer from Henann Prime to Caticlan airport.

The moment we arrived at Henann Prime Beach Resort, we were warmly greeted by the security guard, luggage attendant and Jcel- resort’s front desk. Since we way too early for the 3:00 PM check-in, we were allowed to check-in at 1:30 PM. We even asked to give us a smoking room. Jcel was kind enough to provide us a Premier room on the 3rd floor, where smoking in the balcony is allowed. While waiting, we checked out Sea Salt Cafe and relaxed at the beach bed. We have not officially checked-in yet but the beach attendant surprised us by serving cold glasses of water and giving us towels while we were on the beach beds.

All the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Every time we bump into a staff in the resort’s vicinity, we were sincerely and politely greeted. There were occurrences where we had to cross the main road and the lady guard made sure of our safety while crossing road. We felt very special.

During buffet breakfast and dinner, Sea Salt Cafe staff were very accommodating. They were very helpful and were always ready to serve guests. Sir Art, the manager on duty, was very welcoming and accommodating. He makes sure that food are readily available throughout the duration of buffet. He always ensures that chaffers are always refilled so you will need not to worry about running out of your favorite food in the buffet.

3. Smooth Airport Transfer

It amazed me how organized and seamless the airport transfers were. Since we booked via Henann’s reservation, we did not experience any issues at all. The airport transfers went well. We arrived at Henann Prime Beach Resort fresh and relaxed.

Caticlan Airport to Cagban Port

Henann Group of Resorts Boracay van

The moment you arrive in Caticlan airport, there are Henann staff with a Hennan placard waiting for you. These Hanann staff will direct you to your van transfer from Caticlan airport to an exclusive Henann Group of Resorts port. This port is nearby to Caticlan port where tourists go for a boat transfer to Cagban port. Since Henann group of resorts has its exclusive port, you will need not to worry about enduring the long lines and waiting time in Caticlan port. In addition, you also get to ride a Henann Group of Resorts’ speed boat. Meaning, you will not have to undergo the usual process of falling in line, paying for the environmental fee and waiting for the boat to fill up.

Cagban Port to Hannan Prime Beach Resort

Henann Group of Resort’s boat immediately leaves for Cagban port once you aboard. And it only takes less than 10 minutes boat ride from Caticlan port to Cagban port compared to approximately 20 to 30 minutes when you board a public boat in Caticlan port.

Once you reach Cagban port, they will direct you to a Hennan group of resorts van that will bring you to Henann Prime Beach resort. If you have a heavy luggage, no need to worry as the Henann staff will take good care of your luggage throughout the transfers.

I should say that Hennan Prime Beach resorts exceeded my expectations. I did not really expect that the transfer was a breeze.

4. World-Class and Elegant Rooms

Henann Prime Beach Resort has a total 104 world-class elegant rooms. 50 rooms are located on the Beach wing and the other 54 rooms are on the East wing (main road side).

6. Uniquely Beautiful Pool

Compared to its sister resorts Henann Regency Boracay and Henann Resort Alona Beach Bohol, Henann Prime Beach Resort is smaller. which makes it more quiet and private. Nonetheless, Henann Group of Resorts utilized its limited real estate and made 2 unique and beautiful pools on each wing of the resort. For the safety of its guests, pool opens and 7:00 AM and closes at 11:00 PM.

7. Peaceful Location

Based on stories from people I know, I must admit that I pictured Boracay as a party place. I was wrong. There is still an area in Boracay white sand beach that is relatively less crowded, calm and peaceful.  Being in station 1, which is a bit far from the crowded and busy stations 2 and 3, Henann Prime Beach Resort is a haven to those who want to relax. There are less tourists walking in the beachfront and there are no bars or party places nearby.

Overall, I enjoyed my very first visit in Boracay island. I must say that a huge part of the positive experience was because of us staying at Henann Prime Beach Resort. The airport transfers were hassle free, the room was elegant, beachfront was breathtaking and of course the customer service was superb! Henan Prime Beach Resort in Boracay is truly a perfect hotel if you are visiting the beautiful island of Boracay!

Luckily, my sister who lives in the area brought us to South Streat Gourmand Container Park. It was Saturday night and we were surprised that almost all of the parking spaces were occupied. For a food park which is relatively new, I should say that South Streat Gourmand Park is becoming a popular food destination not only to the villagers in the area but also to tourists visiting Tagaytay.

Cool, hip and fun food Park

The food park’s eye-catching facade is truly inviting especially for first time visitors. It looks very cool, hip and a fun food park.  In fact, most of the visitors take their selfies and groupies by the facade and right inside the food park.

The entire food park is quite small. You can stroll around the area in just 15 minutes. Nonetheless, the seats where visitors can dine are very creative and artistic and so as the stall designs.

The young guy manning outside the stall was very kind and accommodating. He even assisted my sister by giving her options for the dishes. We loved their pork tonkatsu. The tempura was okay and just right for the price.

Seaside Dampa Macapagal – Where to eat seafood in Manila

Philippines is undoubtedly a must visit country for its countless beautiful islands with white sand beaches, waterfalls and welcoming and hospitable people. Being an archipelago, Philippines is also rich in marine life. Thus, backpacking the Philippines will not be complete if you will not try to eat delicious seafood. Roxas City in Capiz province is the country’s seafood capital. (Related: Where to eat in Roxas City, Seafood Capital of the Philippines) If you are travelling to Manila, the country’s capital city, You need not to visit Roxas City to enjoy delicious seafood. There is Seaside Dampa Macapagal, a seafood haven right in Manila to fulfill your seafood gastronomic adventures.

Where to eat seafood in Manila?

Seaside Dampa Macapagal is probably the largest seafood place in Manila. It is perfectly situated as it is near to various hotels, shopping malls and casinos. Seafood Dampa Macapagal is also few minute taxi or uber ride away from the Manila Airport (Ninoy Aquino International Airpbalatort).  If you are bringing your car, there is a spacious parking area.  Parking fee is 20 Pesos.

TIP: If you don’t have a car, it is easier to go to Seaside Dampa Macapagal if you will take uber from any point in Manila. I’m giving you 200 Php off on your first two rides.  Just use promo code ‘edp1000ue‘ when you sign up HERE.

Shop for fresh seafood

A post shared by Ed Puno (@onearmedwanderer) on

Interestingly enough, dining in Seaside Dampa Macapagal is more exciting as you get to shop and choose among the fresh seafood in the palengke or wet market. There is a number of stalls in the market selling fresh sea foods from small shells, shrimps, crabs, lobsters and many more. Just make sure to use your haggling skills as prices may be quite expensive compared to a typical wet market in the country. Nonetheless, you can get discounts from the sellers if you practice your haggling skills.

A post shared by Ed Puno (@onearmedwanderer) on

Jen and I visited the place for the second time. I let Jen do the haggling and we were able to buy a kilo of shrimps for 550 Pesos and a kilo of crabs for 650 Pesos. Note that the price ranges based from the price of the seafood. The bigger the seafood, the more expensive.

Find a restaurant

Once done shopping for fresh sea foods in the wet market, the next step would be finding the restaurant to cook the seafood. There is a number of restaurants in Seaside Dampa Macapagal, all of which basically offer almost the same prices for the ‘paluto’ of sea foods. Paluto means to ask someone to cook for you. Basically, you shop for seafood and you go to a restaurant and ask them to cook the seafood depending on the dish you like based on their menu.

List of restaurants in Seaside Dampa Macapagal

There are various restaurants in Seaside Dampa Macapagal. Some even have karaoke which are perfect for family gatherings or birthday celebrations.

  • Aling Marya
  • Claire dela fuente
  • Cyrill grilled restaurant
  • Huey ying
  • Super wok
  • Papa dann’s grill
  • Seazars seafood paluto
  • Kayming
  • Ocean bay
  • Youjie restaurant
  • Hongkong Mastercook
  • Cuzina

Since it was our second time in Seaside Dampa Macapagal, after buying sea foods, we knew which restaurant to go – Hongkong Mastercook restaurant. We enjoyed our first experience of ‘paluto’ and dining in the restaurant.

The restaurant is spacious and probably the biggest in Seaside Dampa Macapagal. The service is good too! Their staff from the security guard to waiters are very courteous. Food is served fast and the dishes on their menu are very delicious. Patrons are mostly Chinese.

We checked the menu and instructed the restaurant’s staff of the dish we wanted for the seafood. We fell in love with shrimp and crab in red egg sauce the first time we dined in the restaurant. Jen and I asked the staff to cook 1/2 kilo of buttered shrimps, 1/2 kilo of tempura and a kilo of crabs in red salted egg sauce.

Menu of Hongkong Mastercook seafood paluto restaurant

Except for short order, note that the prices in the menu are only for the ‘paluto’ and are exclusive of seafood.

Basically, you will just order rice and drinks after giving instructions on the dishes you want for the seafood you bought in the wet market. We ordered a platter of rice, bottomless blue lemonade and mango juice. After few minutes, the drinks and the shrimps and crab in red egg sauce were served. The tempura was served 15 minutes later. We had no issue with the delay in tempura as the cooks had to remove the shell of the shrimps.

Budget?

Dining in Seaside Dampa Macapagal can be a bit pricey if you’re a couple or if you’re dining alone. We spent 2,321 for a sumptuous seafood meal. For the price, the servings were actually good for 4 to 6 persons. We actually had to take-out the leftovers as we barely consumed half of seafood we ordered. Here’s the breakdown of our expenses when we visited Seaside Dampa Macapagal:

seafood (wet market)

  • shrimps – 550 (1 kilo)
  • crabs – 650 (1 kilo)

Paluto (in Hongkong mastercook restaurant)

  • buttered shrimps – 175
  • crabs in salted egg sauce – 328
  • tempura – 198

Others (in Hongkong mastercook restaurant)

  • rice platter – 250
  • lemonade -75
  • mango juice – 95

Total: 2,321 Pesos ($46)

Overall, if you are a seafood lover travelling to Manila, I would highly recommend Seaside Dampa Macapagal. Being a local, I could not think of any place to fulfill my seafood gastronomic needs aside from Seaside Dampa Macapagal. The experience of shopping for seafood and having them cooked on the dish you prefer is something unique and memorable!

Cheap Restaurant in Dumaguete City – Jo’s Chicken Inato

Jo chicken inato dumaguete philippines

If you are looking for a cheap and probably the best restaurant in Dumaguete City, Jo’s Chicken Inato is the place to be. Popular among locals and tourists, this restaurant started serving their famous native chicken inato in early 80’s. Inato means “aton aton lang” or “exclusive for us”.

Located along Hibbard Avenue corner Siliman Avenue, Jo’s Chicken Inato can easily be reached via tricycle at any point within Dumaguete city.

Jo’s Chicken Inato’s Filipiniana facade sets this restaurant apart from any other restaurants in Dumaguete City. It has this high-end ambiance especially during the evening. Lights complement to the varnished wooden chairs and tables. Being an open air restaurant, guests get to enjoy the unpolluted air of Dumaguete city.

The restaurant bestsellers are Inato Paa, Inato Petso, adobong kangkong, fish kinilaw, macao canton and buko halo-halo. They also serve various meats, seafood, grilled and sizzling dishes. They also serve alcoholic drinks.  For the complete menu, please visit the links below:

I did not hesitate to try their signature dish – Inato Petso (99 Php). This meal consists of chicken breast, rice and atsara. I must say that the chicken inato is something that resembles Bacold’s chicken inasal. Both dishes are tasty and delicious! (related: Where to eat chicken inasal in Bacolod City)

Apart from the delicious chicken inato, we ordered 2 piece of pork barbeque (40 Php), Camaron rebosado (120 Php), buttered shrimps (150 Php). We paid less than 500 Php in total for a festive meal consisting seafoods, pork and chicken!

Being cheaply priced, I did not really expect something special on their menu. Surprisingly, their food exceeded my expectations! I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The location, ambiance and service are good. Food on their menu are delicious and affordable. Well, that explains why Jo’s Chicken Inato is a very popular food destination in Dumaguete City!

Where to eat Chicken Inasal in Bacolod City? Manokan Country

Aida's Manokan Country

Bacolod City is the capital of Negros Occidental province. Pegged as the City of Smiles for being a friendly city, it is also the home of the famous annual Maskarra festival. Aside from its friendly people and its highly anticipated festival, Bacolod is also popular for its specialty dish – Chicken Inasal.

Chicken Inasal is a marinated chicken pieces in a mixture of vinegar, pepper, annato and other spices then grilled using coals until done. The unique blend of marinade and basting make this typical grilled chicken extra sprecial! Today, chicken inasal has become popular and various restaurant chains serve this yummy Bacolod dish all over the Philippines.

Namit ang manok sa Bacolod! Chicken in Balod is delicious!

Manokan Country is a popular food destination among locals and tourists. It is a food complex with wide array of open-air restaurants serving Chicken Inasal.

Located in Father Ferrero street, Manokan Country is just across SM City Bacolod’s north wing. If you are coming from any place in Bacolod, just hail a taxi and inform the driver to bring you to Manokan Country. If you are coming from Bacolod Ceres Bus terminal, cross the road and go to Silay terminal. From there, ride a jeepney bound to SM Bacolod. Just ask the driver to drop you to Manokan Country.

After visiting The Ruins and several old houses in Silay City, I immediately headed to Manokan Country to try the authentic Bacolod’s Chicken Inasal. Manokan Country reminded me of Mahogany Market in Tagaytay. The only difference is that restaurants in Manokan Country offer Chicken Inasal instead of bulalo. (Related post: Where to eat cheap bulalo in Tagaytay?)

I observed that Aida’s Chicken restaurant was jam-packed with guests. Since there are many restaurants to choose from, I decided that Aida’s restaurant must be the place to eat Chicken Inasal in Manokan Country.

Affordable Menu

Aida’s Chicken restaurant offers inasal dishes at an affordable price. The most expensive dish at Aida’s is chicken pecho which only costs 80 Php and garlic rice at only 30 Php. If you are a fan of chicken innards, they also serve atay, heart and tina-e (isaw).

I was surprised by the generous serving size of Aida’s chicken inasal! I have eaten inasal countless times in Manila but Aida’s was really way far better! It was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful! I even had to order my second rice to finish the generous serving of their chicken pecho.

I’m a fan of soy sauce with calamansi but I barely consumed the sauce I prepared. The inasal itself is very delicious and is already good without sauce.

Overall, I super enjoyed the gastronomic experience in Manokan Country. It was nice to eat Bacolod Chicken Inasal right where it originated. I would definitely return to Manokan Country on my next visit to Bacolod City!

Restaurant Bar in Siquijor Island: Baha Bar

Baha bar siquijor philippines

Apart from the beautiful tourist attractions and welcoming people, Siquijor is also an ideal place to enjoy food. Backpacking in Siquijor Island will not be complete without trying its local restaurants. Aside from Marco Polo Restaurant, another must try food haven in Siquijor island is Baha Bar. This one of a kind bar and restaurant is located in Maite village and can easily be reached via motorbike or tricycle if you are coming from any of the resorts in the island.

Jen and I were lucky to have stayed at a nearby cheap accommodation which is literally few meters away from Baha bar. After touring Siquijor island and enjoying the beachfront of Golden Skyview resort, we visited Baha Bar for snack which turned out to be an early dinner for us.

Baha Bar Facade and Interiors

"<yoastmark

Baha bar’s eye-catching facade will truly attract anyone who is new to the island. The Spanish-Filipino inspired architecture and wooden fixtures matched with modern rural vibe make Baha bar stand out among other Siquijor restaurants. You also get this high-end feel once you get inside this open air restaurant bar. Interestingly enough, the entire place look cozy and homey for a restaurant bar in a remote island.

Baha Bar Menu

Being a restaurant bar, Baha bar offers various drinks such as cocktails and beers. They also offer non-alcoholic drinks. We personally loved their shake with homemade ice cream. For their food offerings, they serve soups, fish, pork and chicken dishes. They also serve burgers and pizza. If you are a vegan, don’t you worry as they also have vegetarian food on their menu.

Food, Accommodation and View Deck

Loy, one of the bar’s staff informed us that they are having this lechon and fish buffet for dinner. Surprisingly, Baha bar offers buffet meals every Friday for only 380 Php! Since Jen and I originally wanted to eat snack, we ordered their signature 12″ Baha Bar Pizza (330 Php) and Strawberry Vanilla shake (160 Php).

While waiting for the food, we decided to check-out the entire place.  We discovered that Baha bar also offers accommodation for couples and families/group.  The have Keady (3,000 Php), a cottage for two in the middle of a mini garden. They also have a huge accommodation (6,000 Php) for families or group facing Siquijor beach.

The bar has this sunset view deck where guests can simply enjoy the Siquijor beach view. Here’s one of the sunset photo I took from the view deck.

Baha bar is undoubtedly a popular food destination in Siquijor not only to Filipinos but also to foreign travelers. In fact, we were the only Filipino guests the time we visited the restaurant.

We enjoyed our Baha bar experience. The place and food were great! The staff was welcoming and accommodating. Will I recommend this Siquijor restaurant bar? Definitely YES!

Marco Polo Restaurant Menu

Marco Polo Restaurant is the only food place in Siquijor offering authentic Italian cuisine. On their menu are starters, pizzas, pastas and Italian breakfast. All are simple and Italian dishes at a very affordable price. They also offer various wines, liquors and cocktails.

Marco Polo restaurant’s facade is simple, clean, and laid back.  It is nicely set by the beach.  A Filipino feel welcomes guests to its minimalist interiors. There are wooden tables and chairs that are carefully situated across the restaurant’s kitchen and bar area. I love the open area concept of the restaurant as guests get to enjoy the fresh air and  hear the relaxing sound coming from the ocean waves.

There are 2 huts outside the main restaurant that are also available for dining.

I personally love these huts as you get clear and beautiful view of the beach from here.  It is best to visit Marco Polo during the sunset. Nonetheless, the morning low-tide view of the beach is also awesome!

Marco Polo Chill Out Area

If you want to simply relax there is a chill out zone with 2 hammocks. The entire restaurant is clean and well-maintained. I’m pretty sure that the area looks very cozy and relaxing come nighttime.

Marco Polo Restaurant Experience

Thanks to Rose, the caretaker of the lodge where we stayed, for recommending Marco Polo restaurant. As we arrived in Marco Polo Restaurant, a staff warmly greeted and welcomed us. We immediately took one of the huts while deciding which pizza and pasta to order.

Though  they have Italian breakfast meals, we decided to order pizza and pasta to make sure that we get to try their specialty.  I really do not dine in fancy and expensive authentic Italian restaurants in Manila so I did not have any idea which pizza to order. We seek for the help of one of the staff. She told us that their best seller is Hawaianna. Since I’m not really a fan of pizza with pineapple, we asked for another option and ordered Calabrese – topped with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage and black olives. For the pasta, we ordered Frutti di Mare, spaghetti “al dente” with mixed seafood in a light creamy white wine sauce.

Authentic Italian Pizza and Pasta

Yummy pizza and pasta!
Yummy pizza and pasta!

The freshly baked 12 inch Calabrese pizza and freshly cooked Frutti di Mare pasta quickly arrived. The pizza crust was not too think nor thin. It was just perfect. The crispness were just enough for the thickness of the pizza. I should say that it is by far the best pizza I have ever had during my travels! Calabrese was different from any other commercial pizzas back in Manila. It was more of a delicious homemade authentic Italian pizza to me. It was very tasty! I personally loved the fresh tomato sauce, sliced sausages and the big black sliced olives. The pasta was a surprise. I forgot that I was in an authentic Italian restaurant and expected for a typical Pinoy white sauce. Nonetheless, I find the pasta very tasty and delicious! Truly an authentic Italian pasta.

As we were enjoying our meal, Sir Guilio – the friendly owner of Marco Polo restaurant, checked us out and asked how’s the food. He told us that he approached because he has seen me enjoying eating pasta. We then started chatting and became instant buddies. He was so kind to even share some information as to where his pizza ingredients come from. I learned that the ingredients he use come from Italy, Australia and of course the Philippines. Before leaving the restaurant, he even asked me for my blogsite. I hope he will be able to read this post.

Marco Polo also offers delivery within the municipality of San Juan. Delivery hotline is 09778405399.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Marco Polo Restaurant. The foods are delicious! The restaurant’s ambiance was really good. The service was superb. We felt like more of guests than customers. I would highly recommend Marco Polo Restaurant and would definitely come back on my next Siquijor visit.

Little Beijing Restaurant Karuhatan Valenzuela City

Chicken with Cashew Nuts Little Beijing

Little Beijing is one among the few restaurants in Valenzuela City that is not located in malls or food centers. Located along McArthur highway in Barangay Karuhatan, Little Beijing Restaurant is literally a few steps away from Meaco Hotel and SM Center Valenzuela.

From the name of the restaurant itself, Little Beijing serves Chinese cuisine. On their menu are the typical Cantonese dishes ranging from dimsums, seafoods, century eggs to noodles.

Little Beijing Restaurant Menu

Since we were staying at the nearby Meaco Hotel, we did not hesitate to check Little Beijing Restaurant for our late lunch. As we approach the entrance of the restaurant, we were greeted by the courteous security guard. As we entered, we were immediately assisted by one of the restaurant’s staff.

Little Beijing Restaurant’s interior is at par with that of famous Chinese Restaurants in the Metro. Fixtures look new and the entire place is clean. The cozy atmosphere sets Little Beijing apart from other Chinese restaurants in Valenzuela.

Since we visited for lunch, it was surprising that only a few tables were occupied. Compared to Golden Crown, another Chinese restaurant in Valenzuela, Little Beijing is less busy and more quiet. Perhaps due to the fact that Little Beijing Restaurant is more upscale than the former.

Food

We ordered Chicken with Cashew Nuts (220 Php) and Yangchao fried rice (220 Php) and Siomai (48 Php). While waiting for our orders, tea was served.

Little Beijing restaurant has a dimsum promo everyday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM where dimsums are discounted. This promo is valid for orders placed between the said time. So we only paid 48 Php for the siomai instead of 70 Php.

We learned from the waiter that the Chicken with Cashew Nuts is a new addition to their menu. Given that I’m not really a fan of dishes with nuts, the dish was good. I loved the mixed vegetables and the cashew nuts complement to the overall taste of the dish. The Yangchao fried rice was also good and the serving was generous. What I loved the most is Little Beijing’s freshly steamed Siomai. It was tasty and by far one of the best siomai I’ve tasted!

Overall, we enjoyed our Little Beijing Restaurant dining experience. The staff, from security guard to the waiters are friendly. Food are good (especially the siomai).  We are definitely coming back to try their other dishes!

During our budget staycation in Makati, Jen and I were determined to find cheap eats in the area. We left BRBlock Boutique and Residences for dinner and started driving in search for cheap food places in the country’s most expensive city.

Here are the 2 hidden eateries we discovered in Poblacion Makati that will surely satisfy your taste buds while not emptying your pocket:

Tagaytay Mahogany Market Map

Since I have visited Mahogany Market back in 2013 and I knew that it was the best place to eat affordable yet delicious Bulalo in Tagaytay, I didn’t hesitate to suggest the place to Jen (my Tagaytay travel buddy) for our dinner.  We left Crisanta’s Bed and Breakfast and immediately headed to Mahogay Market.

Upon reaching the Mahogany Market, I was surprised that the food stalls offering delicious Bulalo have been transferred to a new building. The entire market has expanded and now has ample parking space for visitors.

Tip: Parking easily gets occupied during weekends. If you are having dinner at Mahogany Market, I would highly recommend to visit at around 8 PM or 9 PM.

The fresh meat market is now located on the ground of the 2-storey building. On the second floor are the wide array of Bulalohans.

Barboza’s at Mahogany Market

Mahogany Market tagaytay

I blogged about the Barboza’s Kitchenette in Mahogany Market in 2013. I told Jen that we’ll have to look for Barboza’s kitchenette stall as I wanted to meet the owners who commented and invited me to visit their stall again. Well, that was in 2013, 3 years have passed and the entire Mahogany Market has changed a lot! As we reached the second floor, we easily spotted Barboza’s kitchenette. Unfortunately the owners were not around when we visited Barboza’s.

We ordered bulalo, crispy crablets and crispy shripms.

cheap bulalo in Tagaytay
Bulalo at Barboza’s Kitchenette Mahogany Markot – 350 Php
After 3 years, it was surprising that the price of Bulalo at Barboza’s did not change! At 350 Php, an order of bulalo in Mahogany Market is undoubtedly the cheapest bulalo in Tagaytay!  Since we were only two, we were overwhelmed by the generous serving which is actually good for 6 persons.

Tip: Bulalohans in Mahogany Market Tagaytay do not serve single bulalo meals. So better bring your friends or be overwhelmed with the huge serving of their bulalo.

Crispy Crablets Tagaytay
Crispy Crablets – 200 Php
The crispy crablets was okay and could have been better if they were carefully chosen . There were a couple of crabs on the serving that were no longer “crablets”.

Tip: Expect some sort of odd smell in the area since bulalohans at Mahogany Market are just above the beef market and is nearby the cow slaughter-house. Nonetheless, the smell is tolerable.

Crispy Shrimps at Mahogany
Crispy shrimps – 200 Php
I loved the crispy shrimps! It was perfectly cooked, very tasty and crispy!

Cheap Bulalo… but the rest?

Jen and I did not bother to ask for the prices since we were confident that items on their menu are cheaply priced. The bill surprised us. We felt that the crispy crablets and shrimps were a bit overpriced. Well,  our orders were actually good for 6 persons and we barely consumed everything. If we were six, the 890 bill could have been 149 Php each.

Bulalo – 350 Php
Crispy crablets – 200 Php
Crispy shrimps – 200 Php
2 rice – 40 Php
1.5 litre coke – 100 Php

Total – 890 Php

If you are looking for the cheapest yet delicious bulalo in Tagaytay, I would definitely recommend Mahogany Market! Just make sure to bring your friends or family with you as the servings are generous and the Mahogany Market bulalo experience is better when shared. Visiting Tagaytay? Book your Tagaytay hotel here.
